If you are speaking in the front-of-the-room, you’ll need to establish trust and rapport with your audience. Even though you are the expert and are on the stage speaking to the group, you need to seem approachable and just like everybody else. One way to do this is delivering your “mess to success” story. The mess section is where the person was struggling and was not very successful. The mess section could be a few months or even a few years. What this does is establish in the audience’s mind that you are like everybody else and can relate to you. The “success” section is what turned her life around. The mess to success scripting technique is best used in the front of the room speaking situation; however not every speaker needs to use it, but a speaker should tell this story to gain credibility to a larger audience.
